Premis Barcelona 2020

Contrapunt Disruptiu

Contrapunt Disruptiu (Catalan for "Disruptive Counterpoint") is a video installation developped by AMAJ with the support of the Premis Barcelona 2020 (awarded by the Barcelona City Hall in 2021). The project delves into the impact of the 2020 confinement and the Covid-19 pandemic on the musical practices of three Barcelona-based music projects: Colombian singer-songwriter Marta Gómez, Moroccan musician, founder and director of the Barcelona Arab Orchestra Mohamed Soulimane, and the Catalan vocal duo Tarta Relena (Marta Torrella and Helena Ros).   @BCNCiencia @bcncultura  #BequesPremisBCN20

Collaborators

In addition to the invaluable collaboration of the three music projects mentioned above, "Contrapunt Disruptiu" has counted with both David R. M. Irving's musicological supervision and Violeta Ospina's video recording, video production, and artistic assistance.

Also, Eunice Averion (founder of the Barcelona Philipino youth association Oyayi and composer and percussionist Luis Tabuenca have contributted in the making of this project. Whereas the former did the voice-over of its introductory video-chapter, the latter composed and recorded the sound clips of the transition slides of its five video-chapters.

Yoga Practice

On "counterpoint"

The title of the project and its musicological foundation is based on David R. M. Irving's book Colonial Counterpoint: Music in Early Modern Manila (2010). Specifically, it builds  video-graphically upon his use of the term "counterpoint," even though in a completely different historical and geographical context.
